Greg Laurie – A Short Time

“Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” —Revelation 12:12

During the Korean War, Marines in the Baker Company found themselves cut off while enemy forces advanced. For several hours, no word was heard from them. Finally a faint signal came through. Straining to hear each word, the radio operator asked, “Do you read me?”

“This is Baker Company,” came the reply.

“What is your situation?”

“The enemy is to the east of us. The enemy is to the west of us. The enemy is to the south of us and to the north of us. . . .” The soldier then paused briefly and continued, “And we are not going to let them escape this time!”

That is the attitude we should have when the devil seems to be hitting us from every side. As Bible commentator John Phillips wrote, “Satan is now like a caged lion, enraged beyond words by the limitations now placed upon his freedom. He picks himself up from the dust of the earth, shakes his fist at the sky, and glares around, choking with fury for ways to vent his hatred and spite upon humankind.”

The devil does not want you to know that he is doomed. Revelation 12:12 tells us, “The devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” The phrase for “great wrath” refers to a violent outburst of rage. It depicts a turbulent emotional fury rather than rational anger.

Even if some don’t believe it, the devil knows that Jesus Christ is coming back. Until then, his objective is to wreak as much havoc as he can.

Sometimes it seems as though everywhere we turn, there is an attack. There is temptation. There is a problem. There is an issue. But listen: God will give us the strength to get through.

Presidential Prayer Team; J.K. Today is the Annual National Day of Prayer

It’s Here!

“Heaven is a wonderful place / Filled with wonder and grace / I want to see my Savior’s face / Heaven is a wonderful place.” It’s a traditional chorus sometimes sung following a song called “Take the Name of Jesus with You.”

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.Matthew 6:10

The songwriter knew that the days on Earth are beset with trials and mockers of Christian values. One Bible commentator wrote that on this Earth “the wills of lost men and demons vigorously oppose God.”

But Jesus talked often of His kingdom on Earth. “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3) Once you believe, His kingdom is here on Earth because He is a part of you. Jesus reigns in your heart and manifests Himself in your actions, all to give a foretaste of resurrected life in the age to come.

On this National Day of Prayer, join believers across this nation in prayer for mercy on this country. Intercede for those who oppose God that they would accept Jesus as Savior…and find life in His name. Then their actions will be transformed to make this Earth more like Christ’s heavenly kingdom.

The Reality of Godly Living – Greg Laurie

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour —1 Peter 5:8

The Christian life is the greatest life there is. God takes a life that was empty and aimless and headed to a certain judgment, and He turns it around and transforms it. He removes all of our sin. That is more than enough right there, but then He puts the righteousness of Jesus Christ into our spiritual bank account. That is called justification. He removes the guilt that haunted us, fills the emptiness inside of us, and literally takes residence in our hearts. This all comes as a result of the gospel, believed and followed. That is the good news.

The bad news is there are some new problems that come along with all of that. You get rid of an old set of problems and inherit new ones. As the great Bible commentator Ray Stedman said, “A Christian is one who is completely fearless, continually cheerful, and constantly in trouble.”

Once you become a Christian, you have a very aggressive adversary that has set his crosshairs on you. That adversary is the devil, Satan, and he wants to undermine you. He wants to bring you down. The Bible warns that “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12). That word “persecuted” means to be hunted, to be harassed.

So we need to be aware of that and not be surprised when we discover that the Christian life is not a playground; it is a battleground. I think a lot of people believe in a watered-down gospel, and thus they have a watered-down faith that, in reality, isn’t faith at all. They have heard so many sermonettes, they have turned into Christianettes.

If you live a godly life, the reality is that persecution will follow.
