Our Daily Bread — The Next Chapter

Our Daily Bread

Hebrews 12:1-11

Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. —Hebrews 12:1-2

Steve was almost 5 when his father, missionary pilot Nate Saint, was killed in 1956, along with four other men, by the Waodani tribe in Ecuador. But as a result of the love and forgiveness demonstrated by the families of the martyred men, there is now a growing community of believers among the Waodani.

As an adult, Steve moved back to Ecuador and became friends with Mincaye, one of the men who killed his father. Steve’s motto is: “Let God Write Your Story.” He says, “You have a lot of people . . . who want to write their own story and have God be their editor when [it] goes wrong. I decided long ago to let God write my story.” When Steve suffered a serious accident in 2012, he reassured his family: “Let’s let God write this chapter too.” His faith continues to carry him toward recovery.

The story continues to unfold for all followers of Jesus Christ. None of us knows how the next chapter of our life will read. But as we look to Jesus and “run with endurance the race that is set before us,” we can trust Him—the author and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:1-2). Jesus wrote the beginning of our story, and He’ll write the next chapter and the ending as well. —Cindy Hess Kasper

When we stand with Christ in glory,

Looking o’er life’s finished story,

Then, Lord, shall I fully know—

Not till then—how much I owe. —McCheyne

Let your life tell the story of Christ’s love and mercy to the world around you.

Joyce Meyer – Stronger by Faith

The Lord is my Strength and my Song, and He has become my Salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him. —Exodus 15:2

God does not want to just give you strength; He wants to be your strength. In 1 Samuel 15:29 God is referred to as the Strength of Israel. There was a time when Israel knew God was their strength. But when they forgot it, they always started to fail and their lives began to be filled with destruction.

How do you receive strength from God? By faith. Hebrews 11:11 says that by faith Sarah received strength to conceive a child when she was well past childbearing age. By faith you can receive strength to stay in a difficult marriage, raise a difficult child, or prosper in a difficult job. Start receiving God as your strength by faith. It will quicken your body as well as your spirit and soul.

Presidential Prayer Team; A.W. – What’s Your Motive?

Both were sons of Adam and Eve. Both brought offerings. One brought from the fruit of the ground; the other from the firstborn of his flock. One was accepted; one rejected. Why?

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2

Today’s verse offers some insight. Cain and Abel brought different offerings with different motives. Cain came with a proud, unbelieving heart, but Abel came in faith (Hebrews 11:4). In his own eyes, Cain thought his offering was acceptable as evidenced by his anger when it was rejected. But God saw through Cain’s actions to his heart.

When people view your actions, they cannot see the “why” behind them, but God can. Even when you feel justified in your behaviors and words, God sees your motivation because He looks at your heart.

Have you examined the true motives behind your actions lately? Are they honoring to God? Would He be pleased with your offering? Pray for the Lord to create a clean heart in you (Psalm 51:10) and pray also for people and leaders in this nation to stop justifying their wrong actions and return to God in faith.
