Imagine 46,000 cups of tea. That’s the count for Queen Elizabeth II. That statistic came to light last fall when she became Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, surpassing Queen Victoria’s reign of 63 years, 7 months, and 2 days. Journalists calculated the number based on her two customary daily cups of tea.

History is full of assorted odd statistics. One of the reasons we trust the Scriptures is that the accounts are specific, precise, and unequivocal. Read about Noah, for example, and notice all the numerical references: He had three sons. The ark was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high, with three decks and one door. The animals came two by two. It rained 40 days, starting when Noah was 600 years old (plus 2 months and 17 days). The waters prevailed 150 days. And so forth.

In other words, we serve a God who counts. He even counts the hairs of our heads and the days of our lives. He’s a God who multiplies grace and calculates blessings. Why not give Him the sum total of your praise?

Ye shall sooner count the hairs on your head, or the dust upon the sand beach, than you shall be able to estimate the number of His benefits.
