Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Philippians 1:21-23

After devotional writer Frances Ridley Havergal passed away at the age of 42, her sister recalled her last days. “Almost the last time we walked to church together, she turned round to me and said, ‘Marie, I’ve come to the conclusion it will be very nice to go to heaven!’”

Shortly afterward when Frances was on her deathbed, the last Scripture she read was Revelation 2:10 about being faithful until death and receiving the crown of life. When a wave of pain seized her, she told her distressed caregivers, “It’s home the faster!” and, “If I am going it is too good to be true.” Near the end, she gave instructions about her funeral, saying, “Oh, I want all of you to speak bright, bright words about Jesus, oh, do, do, do. It is all perfect peace. I am only waiting for Jesus to take me.”

Our local church is where we celebrate life’s mile markers, including our promotion to glory. Paul wanted to glorify Christ in both life and death, and it’s our joy to anticipate the day when we’ll be furloughed home. May God make that moment a testimony for others. May our loved ones speak bright, bright words about Jesus.

I am lost in amazement! There hath not failed one word of all His good promise!
