The Navigators – Leroy Eims – Daily Discipleship Devotional – Doing the Impossible

Today’s Scripture: Nehemiah 1-2

The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. – Psalm 147:11

God has a way of unexpectedly breaking into our lives. Sometimes it comes as a new revelation of Himself. Or it may come as something He wants us to do.

Such was the case with Nehemiah. Everything in his life was just fine until the day he asked one of his fellow Jews how things were going in Jerusalem. That’s when God set him on an entirely new course and led him to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem.

When I became a Christian, I got hooked up with The Navigators to learn the basics of the Christian life. One summer at The Navigators’ conference center in Colorado, I had a job buffing and waxing the floors. One day the conference director asked me to preach the next morning on the subject of the quiet time.

Now, this was a serious conference and these people were used to hearing good speakers. I prayed and studied the Bible and went through all the notes I had on the subject in preparation for the next morning. I didn’t sleep that night.

I guess it went okay because they asked me to speak again, and that was the beginning of my preaching with The Navigators. But it wasn’t my idea, and it wasn’t a subtle change. The experience hit me like a Mack truck, and I knew it was way beyond my abilities.

Is God breaking into your life in a new way ? If so, take Him at His word and accept the challenge by faith. Sure it’s frightening, but God will work in you. And you could be on the threshold of a great new experience in your walk of daily discipleship.

Prayer

Lord, too many times I remain comfortable at the expense of growth. Thank You for breaking into my life in surprising ways and asking me to join Your plans for me. Amen.

To Ponder

When God calls us to do the seemingly impossible, He’ll also give us the power to do it.
