Guideposts – Devotions for Women – For Such a Time as This

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”—Esther 4:14 (NIV)

As you reflect on this verse, remember that you are called to be faithful to God’s plan for your life. Trust that He will use your gifts and talents for His glory and guide you toward fulfilling your purpose. Like Esther, you can be confident that God has placed you in your current position “for such a time as this.”

Dear Lord, please give me the courage to step out in faith, just as Esther did, and fulfill my purpose.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Trust His Plan

Oh, that I might have my request, that God would grant my desire.—Job 6:8 (NIV)

Often when we experience deep suffering, we question why God allowed the situation to happen. If we can’t change the circumstances, we want God to intervene and relieve us of pain. We hope that God will hear us and fulfill our desire, yet ultimately, no matter the outcome, we must trust His divine plan.

Lord, when I am filled with doubt and despair, fill my heart with Your peace.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Release Old Hurts

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.—Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)

Search your heart and reflect on any hurts that have not yet healed. Surrender your pain and unresolved feelings to God. Ask Him to work miracles from your misfortune. Open your heart to His compassion and love. He will free you from pain.

Dear Lord, thank You for caring for me and helping me let go of my grief and sadness. Open my heart to Your healing touch. Work Your miracles and free me from pain.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Be Kind to the Unkind

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.—Romans 12:21 (NIV)

It’s been said that you should be kind to unkind people because they need it the most. Although it’s not always easy, when you show compassion and forgiveness, you create positive change. Ask God for the wisdom to know when to speak up, when to remain silent, the courage to do what is right and always to remain kind.

Lord, help me to see difficult people through your eyes and to respond to them with your love and compassion. Teach me to set healthy boundaries and to communicate with grace and humility.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Love Your Life

For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.—Hebrews 4:10 (NIV)

Reflect on the above verse and recognize the gift of today. Enjoy your cup of tea or coffee in the morning, feel the sun on your face and listen to the whistles and trills of birds singing. Recognize that the richest part of your life is spent with God and in gratitude, for the glorious gifts He showers on you.

Lord, I am present with You, loving my life and feeling so blessed that I am here.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – God Is with You

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.—Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

Sometimes, despite close relationships and knowing that God is near, life can make you feel alone. When your heart is heavy with loneliness, remember that God is always by your side. Ask Him to give you the strength to be vulnerable to others and open with your feelings. Trust that He is guiding your path.

Lord, even though I know You are with me, sometimes it’s hard to feel Your presence. Help me remember I am never truly alone.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Bless the Animals

So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.—Genesis 1:21 (NIV)

Today, many Christians celebrate the Blessing of the Animals. This tradition, attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, is inspired by the belief that all creatures are created by God and worthy of love and prayer. Take a moment and pray for comfort and healing to all of His creatures that need to feel His love.

Lord, bless all the animals and the humans who care for them. May they be patient, kind and compassionate, and find joy in helping Your creatures.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Fully Face Your Fear

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?—Psalm 27:1 (NIV)

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “He who is not everyday conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life.” Do you avoid fear at all costs, wasting time and energy running away from your worries? Instead of sidestepping the problem, know that with God at your side, you can fully face and feel your fear. You have the power and are free to walk through your worries and move beyond what is blocking you.

Dear Lord, fill me with Your peace which surpasses all understanding, and help me remain calm and centered on You in the face of fear.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Just for Today

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.—Matthew 6:34 (ESV)

When you feel overwhelmed by a big project or goal, focus on today. What can you do right now that will help you succeed? Then, turn to God and ask for the patience and perseverance to keep moving forward just for today.

Lord, I have faith that I can finish what I start, and the process of working towards my goal is just as important as the result.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Great Things for His Glory

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”—2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

In 1963, when astronaut Ed White II ventured out on America’s first spacewalk, he carried a handful of mustard seeds sewn into his spacesuit as a symbol of his faith and to help him feel safe on the journey. Norman Vincent Peale reached out to White before his mission and wrote, “You don’t need to take a mustard seed with you as a symbol of your faith. You have the faith itself and the inner sturdiness that will carry you through this tremendous and rewarding experience.” When you need a little strength in your life, know that you, too, have the “inner sturdiness” to do great things for God’s glory.

Dear Lord, give me a clear vision of Your will and give me the strength to follow it.

When God is your source of strength, you do not need to fear anything. Fill your mind with His power and positive thoughts. Drive out fear and push through dark thoughts, knowing that with His help, you have the power to overcome.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Filled with His Glory

When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. The priests could not enter the temple of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled it.—2 Chronicles 7:1–2 (NIV)

The glory of the Lord is so magnificent that it is impossible to comprehend. Set aside a few minutes every day to think about Him. Focus your mind on Him and His glory. This practice will make you spiritually receptive and help deepen your prayer life.

Lord God Almighty, I commit my soul to Your care. Fill me with Your glory.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – Strong Boundaries

Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.—Psalm 119:133 (NIV)

God gives guidelines to ease life’s journey. By following His guidance and staying on His path, you benefit from becoming stronger in your faith and determined to live a life of purpose. If you feel that His guidelines limit your freedom, shift your perspective and see His direction guiding you to victory.

Lord, help me be disciplined by Your Word, trusting Your direction, and praising the protection You lovingly give me.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – God Will Pick Up the Pieces

God, your God, will restore everything you lost; He’ll have compassion on you; He’ll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered.—Deuteronomy 30:3 (MSG)

God transforms life’s messes and miseries into masterpieces of His grace and mercy. Open your heart to Him, and trust that He is renewing and restoring you, picking up the pieces and rebuilding you. Best of all, when God restores you, He doesn’t bring you back. He brings you forward.

Lord Jesus, You restore my soul. Enfold me in Your love and help me grow to be my best.

Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.”—Genesis 17:19 (NIV)

Is there a longing in your heart that you haven’t fulfilled? George Eliot famously said, “It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” Have faith and pursue your passion. Celebrate the God of miracles. It’s never too late.

Miraculous God, please help me build my dreams into reality.

Guideposts – Devotions for Women – In Remembrance

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.—Romans 8:26 (NIV)

Today is the anniversary of the unimaginable tragedy of September 11, On this solemn day, we ask for God’s presence to surround and comfort all those affected by this tragedy. We pray for healing, harmony, peace and serenity.

Merciful God, comfort those who will never forget, and bring Your peace to the nations of the world.
