Joyce Meyer – Seek the Truth

The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. — Mark 4:14-15

Adapted from the resource Ending Your Day Right Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

If you hear or study the Word, the devil will immediately attempt to steal it from you. He does not want the Word to take root in your heart and begin to produce good fruit in your life. When you learn the truth, deception is uncovered and you are set free. Satan hates and fears the Word. He will do anything possible to prevent you from learning God’s Word.

The reason Satan works so hard to keep you from the Word is simple: He knows the Word of God is a powerful weapon against him. It assures his defeat! That is why it is imperative that you learn to wield the spiritual sword. Reading, hearing, believing, meditating on, and confessing the Word cancels Satan’s evil plan. Today, determine to make the Word of God a priority in your life.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to make Your Word a priority. Help me to take the necessary time to read it, meditate on it, and apply it to my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Joyce Meyer – Preparing for the Best

Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. — Psalm 33:1

Adapted from the resource Closer to God Each Day Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

How we approach each new day and each new situation makes a huge difference. If we decide ahead of time that we won’t be happy or peaceful unless we get exactly what we want, then we will rarely be at peace.

I have heard people say things like, “If it rains tomorrow I am not going to be happy,” or “If I don’t get the job, I am going to be so upset.” When we think thoughts such as this, we are setting ourselves up to be unhappy and to lose our peace and joy before we even have a problem.

Instead of preparing to be upset, we can prepare to be at peace. We can think and speak things like, “I really hope the weather is nice tomorrow, and I hope I get this new job. But my joy comes from my relationship with Jesus, so I choose to be happy and have rest in my soul no matter what I come up against tomorrow. Whether it’s rainy or sunny, whether I get the job or not, I choose the joy of the Lord!”

The way we approach our lives makes all the difference in the quality of life we can have. When we can’t fix life, let’s remember that we can fix our approach toward it.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to approach life today with a godly attitude—positive and full of faith. Help me to make a habit of preparing for the best in every situation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – The Peaceful Mind

“You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character], because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].” — Isaiah 26:3 (AMP)

Adapted from the resource Battlefield of the Mind Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

What is it about nighttime that makes us more vulnerable to satanic attack? Is it because daylight is gone and it’s dark? Is there some kind of association between evil and the dark hours of night? We are usually able to cope with whatever happens to us during the day, but sometimes it’s a different story at night.

My theory is that by evening, most of us are tired and weary, and we just want to lie down, close our eyes, and drift into peaceful sleep. That is one of Satan’s favorite times to engage us in the battle for our minds. He knows that when we are exhausted and sleepy, we are not as resistant to his attacks. And just as we are about to drop off to sleep, he makes his move.

If we recognize that we’re more susceptible to the attack of the enemy at night, we can take steps to be better prepared to stand against him. Some of my friends tell me that they find it helps to meditate on scriptures such as Philippians 4:8 (AMP), which tells us to think on good things—things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and excellent.

Or they claim the promise of Isaiah 26:3: You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character]…. These words from the Bible enable us to remain vigilant even in the dark hours of night. By using the Word of God, we can defeat every onslaught of the enemy—even in our weakest hours.

But if we have not armed ourselves with the Word and spent some time in prayer, we will fall for Satan’s plan when he brings to mind some troublesome event of the day, and asks, “Why did you say that? How could you have been so insensitive?”

He takes advantage of us when he knows we are weak and the most vulnerable to his influence. His goal is to disturb our thoughts and rob us of the peaceful rest that our bodies need. One of his tricks is to cause us to focus on the problems of the day, suggesting that we must immediately—in the middle of the night—determine the best way to settle the issue.

I experienced nights like this years ago, and I didn’t always win the battle. But as a mature Christian, I now know how to fight the good fight of faith. Here’s one thing I figured out a long time ago: It is not wise to make decisions in the middle of the night. There may be times when God demands an immediate surrender, and those are powerful moments in our lives. But most decisions can wait until the next day.

Perhaps we spoke hastily or didn’t respond kindly to someone’s need. The issues are often little things that we probably could have handled better. But as Satan wages his battle in the dark of night, those little things seem to take on importance and urgency—so much so that we believe we will never sleep unless we settle the issue immediately.

When Satan tries to pull that nighttime trick on me, I’ve learned to say, “I’ll deal with this issue in the morning, when the sun is shining. After I’ve rested, I can cope.” I’ve also learned that I can say, “Lord, I surrender this to You. Give me Your rest, Your peace, and help me to make the right decision in the morning.” That works for me!

Prayer Starter: Holy Spirit, thank You for being with me, for protecting me, and for guiding my life. When I face those dark nights and the enemy tries to attack my mind, protect me. I trust You and ask You to keep me in Your perfect peace. Amen

Joyce Meyer – Covenant

This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds. — Hebrews 10:16

Adapted from the resource Wake Up to the Word Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

A covenant is a mutual consent or agreement of two or more persons.

Under the old covenant, our sin could be covered by the sacrifices of animals, but never removed. The sense of guilt connected to sin was always present.

But the good news is that God has made a new covenant with man. It is a better covenant—far superior to the old. The old covenant was initiated with the blood of animals, but the new was initiated with the sinless blood of Jesus Christ.

Jesus took the punishment that we deserved, and promised that if we would believe in Him and all that He did for us, He would forever stand in our place, and our responsibility to keep the law would be met in Him. The old covenant focused on what man could do, but the new covenant focuses on what God has done for us in Jesus Christ (see Romans 5).

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for sending Jesus and allowing me, by faith, to come into an everlasting covenant with you. There’s nothing I can do to earn it, but You want me to simply receive Your grace, peace, joy, and right standing with You.

Joyce Meyer – The Power of Doing Good

…how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. — Acts 10:38 (NIV)

Adapted from the resource The Power of Being Thankful Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

I firmly believe that when we have problems, we should not worry, but we also need to continue doing the things we know to do. For example, if you have commitments, be sure to keep them. Quite often when people are encountering personal problems, they withdraw from normal life and spend all their time trying to solve the problem. All this unproductive activity prevents them from doing what they should be doing, which is “doing good.”

Psalm 37:3 says that we should trust in the Lord and do good, and we will feed on His faithfulness. The faithfulness of God is something we can all be thankful for! I have discovered that if I continue my study of God’s Word, continue praying, keep my commitments, and help as many people as I can, I experience breakthrough much faster. Helping others while we are hurting is actually a very powerful thing to do.

Prayer Starter: I thank You today, Father, that I am not subject to my problems. When I am going through something, I can respond by helping others around me. I am grateful that with Your help, I can do good for others; I can make a difference in this world. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Joyce Meyer – Today May Be “One of Those Days”

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. — 1 Corinthians 16:13

Adapted from the resource Starting Your Day Right Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

Have you ever had “one of those days” where nothing went right, yet you were hesitant to pray because you didn’t know where God might lead you? God won’t always ask you to do something; sometimes He just wants to talk to you.

If He does ask you to do something, He will anoint you to do it. You will enjoy the presence of His power, and someone will be blessed by your obedience. Those are the best days of your life. Take time to pray this morning. Today may be “one of those days” that God has a special assignment for you.

Prayer Starter: Father, I offer myself up to You today. I want to delight in Your presence…and fulfill Your good plan for my day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – Don’t Miss the Miracle

And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. — Luke 10:39

Adapted from the resource Power Thoughts Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

You will not enjoy the present moment and the gifts it contains if you don’t have a balanced attitude toward work. Luke 10:38– 42 tells the story of Jesus’ visit to the home of two sisters, Mary and Martha. Martha was overly occupied and too busy (see Luke 10:40). But Mary sat down at Jesus’ feet and listened to what He had to say.

Jesus said Mary made the better choice. Jesus did not tell Martha not to work, but He did tell her not to be frustrated or have a bad attitude while she worked. Jesus wants you to work hard, but He also wants you to be wise enough to realize when you should stop all activity and not miss the miracle of the moment.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to stay in balance and not miss the “miracle of the moment.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – Tear Down Your Walls with Faith

For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’ — Jeremiah 30:17

Adapted from the resource New Day, New You Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

To avoid pain, some of us build walls around ourselves so we will not get hurt, but that is pointless. God has shown me that it is impossible to live in this world if we are not willing to get hurt. People are not perfect; therefore, they hurt and disappoint us, just as we hurt and disappoint others.

I have a wonderful husband, but occasionally he has hurt me. Because I came from such a painful background, the moment that kind of thing happened, I used to put up walls to protect myself. After all, I reasoned, no one can hurt me if I don’t let anyone get close to me. However, I learned that if I wall others out, I also wall myself in. The Lord has shown me that He wants to be my protector, but He cannot do that if I am busy trying to protect myself.

He has not promised that I will never get hurt, but He has promised to heal me if I come to Him rather than try to take care of everything myself. If you build walls around yourself out of fear, then you must tear them down out of faith.

Go to Jesus with each old wound and receive His healing grace. When someone hurts you, take that new wound to Jesus. Do not let it fester. Take it to the Lord and be willing to handle it His way and not your own. Receive this scripture as a personal promise from the Lord to you:

“For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!'”(Jeremiah 30:17).

With the help of the Lord, you can survive hurt and disappointment and find your completion “in Him.”

Prayer Starter: Father, You have created me to have good relationships. Help me to step out in freedom. Please heal me of any wounds that are holding me back. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – Finishing Well

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. — 2 Timothy 4:7

Adapted from the resource My Time with God Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

It seems to me that I can sense the satisfaction Paul felt in knowing he had finished what he had set out to do. I know that feeling, and I enjoy it very much. I doubt that any of us feel good about ourselves when we give up on something and don’t finish what we begin. I encourage you today to stand strong in faith, knowing that God is with you and that He wants you to go all the way to the finish line.

Even when we are weary and think of giving up, let’s remember the joy we will have when we complete what we have started. God’s grace and power are with us to help us keep going when it is difficult. Paul said it didn’t matter how hard it was or what it cost him, if only he could finish his course with joy (see Acts 20:24). It requires determination, but with God’s help we can do it!

Prayer Starter: Father, help me finish what I have started no matter how challenging it is. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – God’s Love Gives Us Confidence

By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. — 1 John 4:17

Adapted from the resource Love Out Loud Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

No matter how we feel, we need to magnify God above all else and step out in faith to do whatever He asks us to do.

We never have to be afraid of God. We should have reverential fear, meaning a respectful awe, of Him, but He does not want us to lack con¬fidence when we face Him. The Bible tells us to come “fearlessly and confidently and boldly” to the throne of grace and make our requests known ( see Hebrews 4:16 AMPC).

We cannot operate in boldness and fear at the same time. We may “feel” fear, but we must not bow down or give in to it; we can approach God with confidence.

In our society today we have an epidemic of insecurity. The world is full of people who lack confidence. Our confidence is to be placed in Christ alone and in His love for us. We are to put no confidence in the flesh, but to be bold and courageous in Christ.

Begin to believe today that from now on you will step out in faith to do whatever He asks you to do. Don’t draw back in fear and timidity, but go all the way through to the finish of each task.

Prayer Starter: Father, deliver me from insecurity and a lack of confidence. Help me be bold and courageous. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Joyce Meyer – God-Given Desires

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. — Psalm 37:4

Adapted from the resource Hearing from God Each Morning Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

One of the ways God speaks to us is through the sanctified desires of our hearts. God places right desires in our hearts, and then He gives us those desires.

I remember a time when I had a desire for homemade zucchini bread but had no talent or time to make it. I simply said, “Lord, I sure would like some fresh zucchini bread,” and did not think about it again. About a week later a lady who knew nothing of my desire handed me a box, and when I opened it, I found homemade zucchini bread. God delights in doing small and large things for us, and we should never fail to appreciate all of them.

We need to ask God to give us sanctified, or holy, desires. We usually have desire for natural things such as success, finances, nice homes, and good relationships, but we should also desire spiritual things. We should desire to know God in a deeper and more intimate way, to always display the fruit of the Spirit, especially love, to serve God in ways that glorify Him, to always be obedient to God, et cetera. Let us ask God to take away fleshly desire and give us sanctified desire.

God puts in us desires that will bring His righteousness, peace, and joy to our lives (see Romans 14:17), and they never disagree with His Word.

Wrong desires torment us, and we are impatient about receiving them, but sanctified desire comes with a willingness to wait on God’s ways and timing.

Prayer Starter: Father, I ask for You to sanctify my desires. Give me a hunger to know You more. Help me to want what You want for me, knowing it will bring true joy and fulfillment. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – Be Willing and Yielded

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? — Romans 8:31

Adapted from the resource Ending Your Day Right Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

You do not have to depend on your own human efforts to overcome adversity and opposition or to earn favor and win promotion. When God is ready to move in your life, He will give you favor and promotion—and no devil in hell or person on earth will be able to prevent it from happening.

It doesn’t matter what people think of you. Your weaknesses and inabilities don’t make any difference to God. His criteria for using people is not their talents, gifts, and abilities. He is looking for people who are willing and yielded. God looks for availability, not ability.

Let God build you, your reputation, and your career. When the time is right, He will deliver you out of adversity, and then you’ll see the fulfillment of your dreams.

Prayer Starter: Father, I thank You that my times are in Your hands (see Psalm 31:15). Help me to keep my trust in You, knowing that all blessings and promotion come from You alone. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – Relationship, Not Rules

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. — Ezekiel 36:26

Adapted from the resource Closer to God Each Day Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

Many times, when somebody is born again, the first things they are told are: “You need to change your hairstyle, or dress differently. You have a tattoo that needs to be covered up. You’ve got an earring in the wrong place.” Their introduction to Christianity is a list of rules, things they must do, and things they must not do, according to what people think is right and wrong.

Sadly, too many times no one talks to them at all about their heart or their relationship with God. Instead it’s about all these things they have to do if they want to be part of a particular religious organization. Although God will lead us to make positive changes in our lives, He totally accepts us as we are, and we need to do the same for new Christians. Give them time, and God will lead them by giving them new desires.

Jesus died so we could have a deep, passionate, personal relationship with God. He didn’t die to give us a list of rules. He gave us something much deeper and much better—He gave us access to God so that we could be in close personal relationship with our heavenly Father.

Prayer Starter: Thank You, Lord, that You want a close, intimate relationship with me, and that You patiently change me from the inside out. Help me to remember this when I’m tempted to be too hard on myself or others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – No Hope?

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation. — Psalm 42:5

Adapted from the resource Battlefield of the Mind Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

“What’s the use?” Jeff said to me. “I’ve tried many times to work for God and to accomplish great things. No matter what I do or how hard I work, I end up failing.”

“I vowed that I would set aside time for God every day,” Pam said. “That was my only resolution for the year.” She shrugged. “It’s now April, and I stuck with my plan for about three weeks. I never complete most of the important things in my life.”

Jeff and Pam are only two examples of people who feel hopeless. They know what they want to do, but they still don’t accomplish what they desire.

There is no one way we can explain all failures, but both of these believers had reached the place of hopelessness. They were sure they couldn’t do it. “I’ve tried before, and I failed,” they each said. They saw no point in trying again.

“Okay, so I try again and then I fail again,” Jeff said. “I already feel bad; why would I want to feel worse?”

He didn’t realize that negative thoughts and words were the cause of his own failure. Satan was there to attack and discourage him, but he did most of the work himself through an attitude of hopelessness.

Joyce Meyer – Step

“For God’s eyes are on the ways of a man, and He sees all his steps.” — Job 34:21 (AMP)

Adapted from the resource Wake Up to the Word Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

Today, I want to encourage you to do whatever God leads you to do. You may not have all the answers, and you may not know every step to take, but by faith you can take the first step. Maybe that step is:

  • Applying for a class at your local community college
  • Forgiving the person you’ve held a grudge against
  • Going to church for the first time in years
  • Making an appointment with a nutritionist
  • Sending out a résumé
  • Calling an adoption agency
  • Praying a bold prayer, asking God for what seems impossible

You’ve waited, grieved, or made excuses long enough. Now it’s time to believe. Take a step and watch what God can do!

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me today to take a step of faith and do what You’ve placed in my heart to do. I know You are greater than my fears and worries, and You’ll be with me every step of the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – Think About Something Good

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. — Philippians 4:8

Adapted from the resource Trusting God Day by Day Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

One day I remember praying, God, I can’t go on fighting my thoughts all day, every day. As soon as I capture these wrong thoughts, they come back. What am I supposed to do?” As you fight the battle in your mind, you may find yourself praying the same prayer, so I want to share with you the simple answer God gave me. He said all I needed to do was to think about something else!

When you think about something good, there is no room for wrong thoughts to get into your mind. Concentrating on trying to not think wrong thoughts can actually increase them, but simply filling your mind with good things leaves no room for bad things to get in.

The Bible says that if we walk in the Spirit we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (see Gal. 5:16), and this simply means that if we concentrate on the things God desires, then we will not have room in our lives for what Satan desires.

This was a life-changing revelation for me. I realized I couldn’t wait for something good to just fall into my mind. I had to choose my thoughts on purpose. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 30:19 that God sets before us life and death, blessings and curses. If you and I do not choose thoughts that lead to life, the enemy will make the choice for us—and he will choose thoughts that lead to death. But when we choose thoughts that lead to life, our lives will be blessed.

Take time to roll good thoughts over and over in your mind and this will help you form the habit of thinking good things. You must believe you can do something or you won’t even try. So, I repeat: “You can choose your own thoughts!” You can “overcome (master) evil with good” (see Romans 12:21 AMPC).

Prayer Starter: Father, please help me to guard my thoughts today. Help me to think on things that will honor You and breathe life into my moods, attitudes and actions. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – Partnering with God

pray without ceasing, — 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Adapted from the resource The Power of Being Thankful Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

Prayer is the greatest privilege of our lives. It’s not something we have to do; it’s something we get to do! Prayer is one of the ways we partner with God to see His plans and purposes come to pass in our lives and in the lives of those we love. It is the means by which we human beings on earth can actually enter into the awesome presence and power of God.

Prayer allows us to share our hearts with God, to listen for His direction, to express our thanksgiving, and to know how to discover and enjoy all the great things He has for us. I have heard it said that “all failure is a failure to pray.” Communicating with God is indeed the greatest privilege I know, and it is also the simplest privilege I know. Don’t make prayer complicated or difficult. Keep it simple and enjoy every moment spent with the Lord in prayer.

Prayer Starter: Father, I thank You for the great privilege of coming to You in prayer. It is amazing to think that I can enter into Your presence with thanksgiving today. Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer and for guiding me as I go through my day today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – God Will Change You

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. — Proverbs 19:21

Adapted from the resource Starting Your Day Right Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

Even though you may still be operating in old habits, you still have hope of change, but you can’t change yourself. God will change you, if you seek Him with your whole heart.

Don’t be in a hurry for God to finish working in your life. We want everything to be done instantly, but God is not interested in our schedule. The enemy may thwart your plans, but God’s plans don’t get thwarted, and He has a unique plan for you.

Seek God’s plan for your life. Stay on fire, red hot, zealous. Pursue His purpose for you with every ounce of energy you have. There is nothing in this world that is worth seeking more.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to not give up on myself. You are my Source of change. Help me to earnestly seek You in every season of life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Joyce Meyer – Love People in Your Thoughts

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”— John 13:35

Adapted from the resource Power Thoughts Devotional – by Joyce Meyer

One of the most valuable and beautiful things we can do is love others. We can purpose to think about the good things we find in all the people we know, and as we do, our attitudes toward them will improve.

Often we think about what is wrong with people and what we don’t like about them. Focusing on people’s faults is not showing love to them. We can choose to pray for them concerning any weaknesses they may have, and at the same time pray for ourselves that God will help us in our weaknesses also.

Focus on positive, loving thoughts about people. Then, when they do something you don’t like, you are already so full of good thoughts about them, it is easy to just let it go.

Prayer Starter: Father, please help me to think positive, loving thoughts about other people today. Help me to be patient, merciful, and always believe the best. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
