A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure. Proverbs 16:9

Our mind plans based on what we know or think, but God often leads us in an entirely different direction. We only know a little and we base our plans on what we know, but God knows everything. He knows the end from the beginning and will always direct our steps in what will ultimately work out for our best, if we will cooperate with Him.

Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death. God’s ways may not always be quick, or according to our desires, but He does have an appointed time, and it will be the right time. In other words, God has an appointment with your circumstance, with your breakthrough, with your answered prayer.

Suppose you make an appointment at the doctor for 11:45 on a certain day. You’ve had that appointment for a long time and been waiting for it. If you show up in the doctor’s office at 9:00 a.m., it wouldn’t matter how frustrated you got, you would still have to wait for your appointment until your appointment time.

In Acts 1:6, 7, some of the disciples said to Jesus, “Lord, is this the time when You will reestablish the kingdom and restore it to Israel?” In other words, they were saying, “Jesus, tell us when You’re going to come back. We want to know when these things are going to happen.”

Jesus said to them, “It is not for you to know the appointed time. Only God knows the appointed time.”

So if only God knows the appointed time and if we believe He loves us, then why can’t we believe that at the appointed time we’re going to get our breakthrough? We can prove that we trust God by enjoying our lives and being peaceful while we wait.

Love God Today: God has an appointment with your breakthrough – so be patient while you wait.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  Romans 8:37

We go to Christ for forgiveness, and then too often look to the law for power to fight our sins. Paul issues this rebuke: “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? . . . Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” Take your sins to Christ’s cross, for the flesh can only be crucified there: We are crucified with Him. The only weapon to fight sin with is the spear that pierced the side of Jesus.

To give an illustration–if you want to overcome an angry temper, how do you go about it? It is very possible that you have never tried the right way of going to Jesus with it. How did I get salvation? I came to Jesus just as I was, and I trusted Him to save me. I must kill my angry temper in the same way. It is the only way in which I can ever kill it. I must go to the cross with it and say to Jesus, “Lord, I trust You to deliver me from it.” This is the only way to give it a deathblow.

Are you covetous? Do you feel the world entangle you? You may struggle against this evil as long as you please, but if it is your besetting sin, you will never be delivered from it in any other way than by the blood of Jesus. Take it to Christ. Tell Him, “Lord, I have trusted You, and Your name is Jesus, for You save Your people from their sins. Lord, this is one of my sins; save me from it!”

Ordinances are nothing without Christ as a means of mortification. Your prayers, and your repentances, and your tears–the whole of them put together–are worth nothing apart from Him. Only Jesus can do helpless sinners good, and helpless saints too. You must be conquerors through Him who has loved you if you will be a conqueror at all. Our laurels must grow among His olives in Gethsemane.

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”    —Luke 19:10

I have a friend whose father died and never had a relationship with God. As a matter of fact, my friend wasn’t a believer at that time, either. But my friend told me how he went to visit his father in his hospital room and noticed that one day, not long before he passed, there was a copy of the Bible there in his father’s room. It was apparent that his father had requested it, knowing the end was near.

So I told my friend, “Look, if your father was really seeking God, then God would have more than met him halfway, because God wants us to know Him more than we could ever imagine.”

When a loved one who has not made a profession of faith in Christ passes away, don’t necessarily assume that he or she is not in heaven, because you never know what prayers go through the heart of a man or a woman when they are entering into eternity. Even if someone cried out to the Lord in the last final seconds of life, you can be certain that God would save them.

Jesus extended mercy to the criminal who was being crucified next to Him on the cross. Those who were crucified at that time typically were murderers or insurrectionists or had rebelled against Rome. Yet God forgave such a person in the last moments of his life, simply because he had said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom” (Luke 23:42).

I am not trying to give false hope, but neither do I want to give false condemnation. Let’s leave it in the hands of God and remember that God loves us, and God loves everyone. And we need to care about them and love them as well.
