Ants are tiny but interesting beings. They are found almost everywhere on Earth. They work together in colonies to accomplish more and are one of the strongest creatures in relation to their size. Don’t let their wee stature fool you. These miniature insects work hard.
Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.
Proverbs 6:6
Today’s passage offers advice to the lazy: look at the ant. But it’s not just their diligence you should consider. Labor together. “So we, though many, are one body in Christ.” (Romans 12:5) Be strong. “The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.” (Psalm 118:14) Cover the Earth. “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’” (Mark 16:15) Amazingly, God reminds you of His plan – and your purpose in that plan – through one of His smallest creations.
Praise God today for all He has made – and especially for your place in the body of Christian believers. Ask Him if you are more like the ant or the sluggard, and then correct your attitudes and behavior as He directs. Seek to fulfill His will in your life this year…and then ask for His purposes to be achieved in this nation and its leaders.
