“Nothing is certain,” it is said, “but death and taxes.” This amusing statement is pretty much true. How easy it is to make plans, counting on every day to be predictable, and then an event comes along and rattles life as you know it.
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
Proverbs 27:1
The apostle James cautioned believers about announcing their annual plans. He said people are like vanishing mists, and that no one knows what tomorrow will bring. Instead, you’re to say, “If the Lord wills, I will live and do this or that.” James goes a step further, insisting that boasting about your future plans and giving no acknowledgement to God is evil. In addition, if you know the right thing to do but don’t do it, it is a sin (James 4:13-17).
Recognize that your life is fleeting, yet take hope that all who believe in Jesus has eternal life (John 3:16). Determine to do good deeds during the remainder of your stay here on Earth. Plan your “to-dos” with the stipulation, “As God wills.” Pray for those who have yet to receive Jesus as their Savior, and ask God to help your leaders consult Him in their decision-making.
