On October 14, 1987, Jessica McClure became America’s baby when, at 18 months old, she fell into a well behind her aunt’s Midland, Texas home. When her rescue made national news, President Ronald Reagan said all of America became Jessica’s godmothers and godfathers. Due to the nature of the small pipe in which Jessica was stuck and the rock surrounding it, rescue was complicated…but after 58 hours, the little girl was set free.
He drew me up…and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
Psalm 40:2
The Psalmist from today’s passage also felt stuck in a pit, but offered praise to his Savior who provided sure footing. While Jessica’s rescue took many workers, your rescue only requires one, God. No matter the pit – finances, health, marriage, family relationships, loss – the Lord offers security.
Praise God for the deliverance from the pitfalls in your life. He is a good Father. But also stop and pray for this nation to acknowledge Christ as Savior. Deliverance doesn’t come from a bailout or a subsidy; it comes from Almighty God. Pray for America and its leaders to call on God to make the nation’s steps secure.
