Presidential Prayer Team; H.L.M. – Overflowing with Joy

ppt_seal01

When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well, she did not expect Him to speak to her – much less ask for a cup of water. The Lord spoke frankly about her past and present living situation and showed her that water from the well would never be a source of satisfaction. Then Jesus poured His living water over her as He offered salvation, reconciliation and fulfillment. The Samaritan woman’s immediate response was to run and tell others about her spiritual freedom. As a result of the joy flowing from her, many people became Christ-followers.

Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?

John 4:29

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23) When you allow the Holy Spirit to direct your life, God’s character will flow out through your words and actions. As a result, others will notice this fruit.

Continually drink deeply from the wellsprings of God’s love through prayer and reading the Bible. As you are refreshed with that living water, pour some onto dry, thirsty people around you. Pray also that God will bring Christ-followers into the paths of our nation’s leaders who will do the same.

Charles Stanley – Surviving Our Present Culture

Charles Stanley

Hebrews 5:12-14

If we desire to survive our present culture, then the inspired, infallible Word of God must have a central place in our daily life. Through the Bible, God speaks to us about His truths and the world’s lies.

To know if we have fallen victim to falsehood, we need to take an honest look at whether we are committed Christ-followers or worldly believers. Worldly Christians may have strong convictions about following the Lord but often find themselves compromising those principles. A weak understanding of God’s character and instructions will result in self-focused lives and susceptibility to the culture’s influences (Eph. 4:14). Worldliness is revealed in long-term inconsistency with regard to the Christian walk and in a focus on things that give pleasure or comfort. Minimal involvement in the local church also prevents growth in spiritual maturity.

Do you recognize yourself in any part of this description? If so, be encouraged. Scripture stands as a beacon to guide us safely through cultural perils so we can become committed Christ-followers. The Bible and the Holy Spirit’s work will increasingly cause our lives to reflect God’s standard. Applying Scripture to our attitudes and actions will result in a growing passion for the Lord and greater obedience to Him. Then, as trust and dependence on Jesus Christ continue to increase, our whole life will take on a new perspective because we have aligned ourselves with His Word. What place does Scripture have in your decision making?

Presidential Prayer Team; H.L.M.- Power of Collaboration

ppt_seal01

Nehemiah encountered challenges in his effort to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. When he surveyed the situation and changed his plans, he recruited the help of many. It was a collaborative effort as some stood guard while others worked on the wall. Nehemiah created a plan where even the most distant team member could call for help from all others when necessary.

And each of the builders had his sword strapped at his side while he built. The man who sounded the trumpet was beside me.

Nehemiah 4:18

John 17:21 says, “That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” Jesus prayed that His people would share the same unity as He and His Heavenly Father. When Christ followers are loving and serving each other, it is a powerful witness to the reality of God’s presence in their lives.

Join your heart with believers across America and help rebuild the spiritual wall of America. Pray daily for our nation’s leaders. As you do, know that God is beside each of you as you collaborate with others in this powerful act of service.

Our Daily Bread — Longing To Grow

Our Daily Bread

1 Peter 1:22–2:3

As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby. —1 Peter 2:2

The 2010 documentary film Babies followed four infants who were born into very different circumstances in Namibia, Mongolia, Tokyo, and San Francisco. There is no narration or dialogue from adults in the film, only the sounds babies make as they begin to discover the world into which they have been born. They coo and laugh when they’re happy; they cry when they are hurt or hungry. And all of them like milk! The fascination of the film lies in watching them grow.

As a baby craves milk, followers of Christ are to crave the “pure milk of the Word” that leads to spiritual growth. The apostle Peter says, “Long to grow up into the fullness of your salvation; cry for this as a baby cries for his milk” (1 Peter 2:2 TLB). Peter wrote to encourage a group of Christ-followers who had been scattered by persecution. He urged them to set aside feelings of anger and jealousy toward each other, along with talking one way and living another (v.1), and “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby” (v.2).

The Lord invites us to drink all that we need from His bountiful supply. He loves to watch His children grow! —David McCasland

Lord, I want to be more like You.

Please give me a fervent desire to drink of

Your Word. Grow me into a person who

resembles You in all I say and do.

The more we dig into God’s Word, the more we grow.

Our Daily Bread — On My Side

Our Daily Bread

Psalm 118:1-6

The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. —Psalm 118:6

After diminutive Olympic athlete Gabby Douglas captured two gold medals in the 2012 London Games, she made this proclamation: “God will never fail you. He’s always on your side.”

Sometimes this kind of statement by an athlete can be misunderstood. It can be taken to mean that if I’m competing against you in a sports contest and I have God’s help, there is no way I can lose. But if we turn to Psalm 118:5-6, we get the true picture of what this line means. The psalmist wrote, “I called on the LORD in distress; the LORD answered me and set me in a broad place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.”

Another version translates verse 6 as “the LORD is with me” (NIV). It’s the idea that when trouble comes into our lives, God, who is full of mercy and love (which “endures forever,” v.4) will always be attentive to us and provide the protection we need.

We don’t have to be an Olympic champion to appreciate this kind of divine attention. This is what we need when the economy falters and our finances can’t keep up. It’s what we need when a relationship we cherished falls apart. No matter what our situation, as Christ-followers we know where to find help. “The LORD is on my side.” —Dave Branon

Be still, my soul—the Lord is on thy side!

Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;

Leave to thy God to order and provide—

In every change He faithful will remain. —von Schlegel

In the midst of every trial, God is on our side.

Charles Stanley – Time for Success

Charles Stanley

Ephesians 5:15-17

For Christ-followers, succeeding in God’s eyes is the only kind of achievement that matters. Sometimes, however, success seems to elude us. When it does, examining what we are thinking and how we’re spending our time can help us move forward. There’s a relationship between spiritual success and the way we use our time. To become the person God wants each of us to be and to achieve the tasks He’s given us to do, we must manage our time carefully.

Time is a gift God has given us, and we’re accountable to Him for the way we spend it. We need to recognize that time is not ours to fill as we choose, but rather, it’s a trust from the Lord to be utilized in ways that fulfill His plan. Reviewing our schedule regularly will help ensure that we invest this precious resource His way.

Take a moment right now to review your calendar for the rest of this week, and ask yourself the following questions:

1. Does this schedule reveal a wise use of my time, according to God’s principles?

2. Where will I end up if I continue to invest my time in the same activities I’m currently involved in? Will it be where God wants me to be?

3. What will I be accomplishing for the kingdom of God if I continue to use my time in this way?

4. Does the way I spend my time help me move closer to achieving the Lord’s goal for me—namely, ongoing personal transformation into Christlikeness?

Respond to what the Holy Spirit reveals about your schedule, so that you may make wise use of your days. Remember that God wants you to succeed.

Presidential Prayer Team; C.H. – Courage on a Camel

ppt_seal01

Often the setting of adventure stories, the Sahara desert has a reputation for danger that is no exaggeration. So why would 20 men choose to load up camels once a month and cross the world’s hottest lands? They are boldly carrying the Word of God to the Islamic people. To avoid their Bibles being discovered, these Christians are willing to risk potentially fatal desert conditions to bring His truth to those who need it.

And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly.  Acts 19:8

The apostle Paul also took risks in sharing the good news of Christ. “Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea.” (II Corinthians 11:25) Sharing Jesus takes courage – even in the relative safety of America, where biblical principles are under more scrutiny than ever.

People question the legitimacy of Jesus as God’s Son as well as the Bible being the true Word of God. Christ followers must have courage to stand in the face of attack. Pray for God to give you the courage to share His truth, even when it’s not the popular viewpoint. Then ask Him to strengthen Christians in the House and the Senate to not bend or sway to opposition.

Presidential Prayer Team; C.H. – Crier for Christ

“Oyez, oyez, oyez!” In Medieval times, a town crier rang a bell shouting this funny phrase, meaning “Hear ye!” Before the invention of moveable type, many were illiterate and depended on the bell ringer with the red and gold robe to deliver the news. Criers shared everything from royal proclamations to funeral arrangements. If people needed to know it, the crier would proclaim it.

Repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations. Luke 24:47

In the passage before today’s verse, Jesus recounts His death, burial and resurrection. Then He shares how His disciples are to proclaim “repentance and forgiveness” all over the world, starting in Jerusalem. You, too, are called to be a crier for Christ. No red robe or bell is required – only a willing spirit to tell others about the love of Jesus. Without the news of the crier, the people would be in the dark.

The same holds true today. Isn’t it time for Christians to cry out to all who would hear the news of a Savior? Ask God to make you bold enough to proclaim His name where you live. Then ask the Lord to give courage to the Christ followers in the Senate and the House to share His truth with their fellow leaders.
