Presidential Prayer Team; – Dead Men Redemptions?

The proliferation of media today – round-the-clock news channels, the Internet, and armies of professional pundits – has polarized America and made it nearly impossible for the government to get anything done. How much easier it would be if we could return to the days of the nation’s founding when George Washington was president and the nation was united. Right?

While I am yet alive with you, you have been rebellious against the Lord. How much more after my death!

Deuteronomy 31:27

Wrong. During Washington’s presidency, notes one of his biographers, “the number of newspapers printed in the United States exploded…from under 50 newspapers around 1776 to over 250 by 1800, encouraged by new federal laws that made it cheaper to send newspapers through the postal system. Newly aggressive newspaper editors spurned the old standard of impartiality, taking a stronger role in shaping the newspaper’s message in support of, or in opposition to, the government.”

Presidential Prayer Team; C.P. – Godsend

During the fifth century, Patrick was kidnapped from Britain and made a slave in Ireland for six years. He escaped and returned to his family. Years later, he felt God telling him to return to the very land where he was enslaved – and as he obeyed, many were converted to the Christian faith.

Even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.

Ephesians 2:5

Some may wonder at Patrick’s ability to return to Ireland, serve faithfully and preach the gospel, but he is an example of what Jesus did for all people. Today’s verse said that Christ died for those dead in their sins. He doesn’t wait for a person to get his act together to come to Him. Instead, when one comes to Him, He is the one who changes a person from the inside out.

Presidential Prayer Team; C.H.- Prepping

Did you know around 3.7 million Americans consider themselves preppers? Preppers are people who believe a catastrophic event is likely to happen in the future and prepare for it. These survivalists spend thousands of dollars on food, clothing, shelter and water readying for the end of times.

Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them…to meet the Lord.

I Thessalonians 4:17

Today’s passage also speaks of the end of times. The apostle Paul wrote of a day when Christ will return, starting what some call the Apocalypse. Paul tells the church at Thessalonica, “The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.” (I Thessalonians 4:16) He goes on to describe how those believers alive on the Earth will rise to meet Jesus in the clouds.

Christ will return. How are you prepping for His arrival? Are you sharing His love with others? Pray for God to “prep” the hearts of your fellow Americans and your national leaders to proclaim Him the one true God.

Presidential Prayer Team; G.C. – Endings

Eschatology – it is the exploration of “end things” taken from two Greek words meaning “last” and “study,” whether the end of a life or the end of an age or the end of the world. Christian eschatology is the study of the end of the Kingdom of God on Earth. Maybe you’ve noticed many people today are almost obsessed with figuring out what happens at the end.

Yet I will leave some of you alive…when you are scattered through the countries.

Ezekiel 6:8

Scripture is clear that however long God’s people are alive on Earth, whether they are together or scattered about, they will encounter trials, persecutions and trouble of every kind. Through those difficulties, God somehow refines His followers and accomplishes His purposes in the watching world. Instead of ease and deliverance, God offers His presence as the sustaining power for enduring suffering during hard times.

Don’t get caught up in nit picking about God’s plan for ending time. Dedicate yourself to bearing the testimony of Jesus Christ today, in the circumstances of your present life. Pray for courageous leaders to rise up across America with a resolve to uphold the name of Jesus regardless of the cost, remaining alive and faithful to the end…whenever that may be.

Presidential Prayer Team; C.P. – Destruction

You may have heard the phrase, “Pride goes before a fall.” The actual Bible verse says, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18) Nebuchadnezzar experienced this when he was king of Babylon. God gave him greatness, glory and splendor. Today’s verse gives a description of the power he had over his subjects. Yet when Nebuchadnezzar became proud, God reduced him to an animal-like state for seven years.

Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive.

Daniel 5:19

Presidential Prayer Team; A.W- The Elected

The 2016 presidential election campaign season is in full swing, and already many hopefuls have been left wanting. The Democratic Party began with six potential candidates; the Republican Party with 17, the largest presidential field in American history. Now, fewer remain and the attrition will continue until only one from each party are left alive in the race for the White House.

In the whole land…two thirds shall be cut off and perish, and one third shall be left alive.

Zechariah 13:8

In the verses preceding today’s scripture, the Lord promised to eradicate idolatry and those who honored them, leading to most of the people perishing. Those remaining would be tested and refined. Many believe these verses reference the Jewish nation during the Roman wars, or the yet-to-be-fulfilled prophecy of Christ’s return when only an elected, faithful few will remain.

Only two presidential candidates will make it through the campaign process. Those remaining will undergo testing, perhaps proving their worthiness for future political races. As you pray today, ask God to intervene by refining the candidates. Pray that the next president will be one who honors Jesus, and that the Lord will aid you by guiding your vote.

Presidential Prayer Team; – First Person Testimony

He is alive! He’s risen! Jesus lives! Up from the grave He arose! When Easter comes around, you hear many of these phrases from Christians. More than likely, you’ll see them posted on social media with images of the cross or an empty tomb. As powerful as those statements are, they are in third person. How much more powerful are they when spoken in the first person from the lips of Jesus Himself?

The living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore.

Revelation 1:17-18

Today’s passage is spoken by Jesus. It’s not one of the disciples saying, “He is alive!” It’s the Son of God Himself stating the truth – and that’s a powerful testimony! The apostle John heard this straight from His Lord – and you can, too! “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Jesus is alive and sits at the right hand of God. Give thanks today for your risen Savior. You serve a God who lives in your life and in the lives of Christ-following Americans. Pray that your national leaders will hear the truth from the Almighty – in first person.

Presidential Prayer Team; J.R. – Strange Sacrifice

Kent Brantly, the missionary doctor who famously contracted the Ebola virus in Africa and survived against the odds, has been the subject of both praise and criticism. Some Christian leaders called him heroic and an example of Christ, who left Heaven and came to a place of suffering and trouble to do good. On the other hand, one columnist said it was “idiotic” for Brantly to go to Africa and risk his life when there is so much need in the United States. “He would have done more good [in America] than marinating himself in medieval diseases of the Third World,” the columnist wrote.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

Psalm 116:15

The Great Commission is a strange thing to those who do not understand the call of God. Serving Christ seldom looks like an equitable transaction by the world’s measure. But a precious few understand that any sacrifice – even life itself – is not too high a price to pay in gratitude for what He has already done.

As you pray today, thank God for those who have sacrificed for this nation and for His cause. Then say, as Isaiah the prophet said to the Lord, “Here am I! Send me!”

Presidential Prayer Team; A.W. – That’s Not Fair

The United States justice system was created to uphold the rule of law. Courts and judges are supposed to be impartial and enforce fairness, which is why justice is often symbolized as a blindfolded figure balancing a set of scales. However, in 2014, a Rasmussen Report indicated that 43 percent of Americans felt the federal justice system was unfair. The following year, a law professor named Adam Benforado published a book, Unfair, which highlights what he views as the hidden unfairness in the legal system.

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity.

Psalm 67:4

Today’s verse reminds believers there really is a judge who rules fairly and guides those who follow His laws into prosperity. It proclaims this is reason to sing for joy and offer praise. When nations invite Christ to reign over them and allow Him into their governance, the nation prospers; but when the people leave God out, the nation falls into condemnation.

Presidential Prayer Team; C.H. – National Representation

Since 1956, the official motto of the United States has been “In God We Trust.” This phrase is from the fourth verse of The Star Spangled Banner and has been printed on coins since 1864. While some claim the motto violates the First Amendment, the majority feels it represents the nation well.

In God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

Psalm 56:4

In 2006, the Senate reaffirmed the motto, and the House did the same in 2011. Americans have spoken and they want to trust God. King David had a similar motto, “In God I trust.” He wrote today’s passage while the Philistines held him captive. Comparably, “In God We Trust” was also written during a time of adversity – The War of 1812. King David found relying on the Lord gave him courage.

Presidential Prayer Team; C.P.- Desperation

Droughts in the western states can become so severe that animals abandon their babies because they are unable to care for them. One doe in Texas, though, was particularly resourceful; she led her fawn to a kiddie pool in a nearby yard. Thirst is a powerful force.

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.

Psalm 42:1

The Psalmist uses it in today’s verse to describe not only his desire and motivation, but deep need for the Lord. The Bible promises that those who seek God will find Him. Are you as determined to find God as someone dying of thirst is to find water? Sometimes it takes a great need to stir up that level of motivation. But you don’t have to wait until you are in a desperate situation to seek God desperately.

Presidential Prayer Team; A.W. – A Winning Cry

Visit any playground and you might find a group of kids playing “Mercy.” This popular children’s game of strength and endurance also goes by other names such as “Peanuts” and “Uncle.” In the game, each player attempts to bend back the fingers of the other player until they can no longer stand the pain or reverse the situation, at which time the “losing” player cries out for mercy. Then the “winning” person releases the fingers to stop the pain.

Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.

Psalm 28:6

In the scriptures leading to today’s verse, David expresses his suffering. He anxiously prays to God asking for mercy…and the Lord immediately answers his prayer. The pain stops and he experiences peace that leads him to bless the Lord.

Presidential Prayer Team; H.L.M. – An Eternal Ride

During a recent visit to New York City, 2016 presidential candidate Rick Santorum and two associates were riding in a cab on Manhattan’s west side. Kenneth, the cab driver, looked at Santorum in the rear-view mirror and said, “I know you. You’re Rick Santorum.” Richard, one of the two men with Santorum, was a pastor. He asked Kenneth, “What do you think of Jesus?” Kenneth responded, “Oh, that’s not for me.”

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.

Psalm 16:5

Presidential Prayer Team; C.H.- Open Schedule

Did you know the White House receives around 100 written requests to see the president each day? Everyone wants to see the Commander-in-Chief, whether it’s to lobby a cause or snap a photo. Richard Berke of The New York Times once said “it may be easier to get an audience with the Pope, or even Madonna, than to get squeezed onto the calendar of the President of the United States.”

Many seek the face of a ruler, but it is from the Lord that a man gets justice.

Proverbs 29:26

Most want the president to solve a problem, but today’s passage says it’s the Lord, not a ruler, who grants justice. God is available any day, any time. You only have to call His name. He may be the Creator of the universe, but His schedule is always open for you. You can come to Him in boldness and confidence and receive both strength and wisdom for your soul.

Presidential Prayer Team; C.P. – Love Beyond Fear

With as many as 100,000 Syrian refugees about to settle in the U.S., many citizens are frightened, worried or angry. What if terrorists are among them? What if the Islam religion takes over? What about the poor, the homeless, and the veterans of America? Some wonder if anything positive can come out of this situation.

If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat.

Proverbs 25:21

Presidential Prayer Team; C.P. – Eternal Mindset

This world is a dangerous place to live. No one will make it out alive. Yet the Christian need not be worried, fearful, hateful, or bitter. Instead, believers in Jesus are to be loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and temperate.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

Proverbs 18:10

To maintain these qualities during difficulties, people must turn to God as their refuge and seek the counsel of the Holy Spirit. Today’s verse depicts the Lord as a tower that serves as both a place of shelter as well as protection. As you run to Him, you also realize God does not think like humans do. He looks at people and circumstances from an eternal perspective. He’s not overly concerned about His children being comfortable. He’s more concerned for eternal souls.

Presidential Prayer Team; A.W. – Godly Guidance

Famous evangelist Billy Graham has been privy to some of the most important decisions in the nation’s recent history. Every president since World War II has met with him to seek counsel on professional and personal matters – from war, to the existence of Heaven, to marital affairs. Two presidents, Johnson and Nixon, offered him government positions that Graham politely refused. Instead, through his crusades and messages, Graham has provided spiritual guidance to hundreds of millions of people.

Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.

Presidential Prayer Team; C.H. – Friendly Counsel

For thousands of years, there have been legends of rejuvenating waters. Writings of the fifth century Greek historian Herodotus spoke of a mythical fountain that granted youth to those who drank or bathed in it. The Spanish explorer Ponce De Leon was searching for the fountain when he landed in Florida in 1513. Youth was a powerful motivator for the conquistador to venture into the unknown.

The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.

Presidential Prayer Team; A.W – Remember This

Did you know that if the human brain were an actual computer, it would have up to 2.5 million gigabytes of storage? Yet even with all of this capacity, humans still tend to forget things, so they have adapted ways to help. The act of tying a string around your finger to help you remember something dates back to when people would tie a piece of cloth around any part of their body that hurt. This was done to keep the “spirit of life” in that part of the body and prevent the pain from spreading; therefore, tying a string around the finger was believed to keep the memory there.

Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

Proverbs 7:3

Presidential Prayer Team; C.P. – Love Gifts

When people celebrate Christmas every year, it’s easy to fall into the trap of buying gifts out of obligation. You might think you have to buy someone a present because they bought you one, or they’re a relative, or you bought something for someone at work, so you need to buy gifts for all of your coworkers. When you feel pressured to give beyond what you are able at Christmas, it’s easy to feel disgruntled.

There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

Acts 4:12

Think about the greatest gift of all. Jesus. Salvation. Eternal life. “For God so loved the world he gave His Son.” He didn’t do it out of obligation or because He wanted to make a good impression. He did it out of love.

This Christmas, determine to give out of love. Pray about the gifts you purchase. What would make the person on your list feel loved? Pray that this nation will focus on God and people, not things. Intercede, too, for protection for all of the shoppers, and that the needs of those going through difficult times will be supplied.
