Presidential Prayer Team; C.H. – Glorious Sequel

When movies are box office hits, audiences crave a sequel. When the President of the United States has a great four-year term, you can most assuredly expect him to run for a second. When dinner is delicious, you may ask for another helping. When people experience things they love, they always want a continuation of a good thing.

Some mocked. But others said, “We will hear you again about this.”

Acts 17:32

Some of Paul’s listeners in today’s key verse felt the same way when they heard the incredible story of Jesus and about His resurrection from the dead. This has always been the case when the gospel is presented – some mock and others want more. “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (I Corinthians 1:18)

Many Americans disregard the name of Christ, but don’t let that dissuade you from sharing about His resurrection and love. Ask God to open the hearts of your fellow Americans and its leaders to the good news of Jesus…and get excited! Christ’s return – His glorious sequel – is coming!

Presidential Prayer Team; J.R. – Commander in Chief Comeback

People like to talk about the good old days, but they typically don’t bring presidents back. Only one chief executive has ever been returned to the White House after having previously been defeated: Grover Cleveland was both the twenty-second and twenty-fourth President of the United States. One person who anticipated this turnaround was Grover’s wife, Frances. As the Clevelands vacated the White House after losing the 1888 election, Frances instructed a staff member to “take good care of all the furniture and ornaments in the house…we are coming back four years from today!”

Jerusalem remembers…all the precious things that were hers from days of old.

Lamentations 1:7

When Jerusalem was overrun by her enemies – the result of disobedience to God’s direction – her citizens desperately wanted things to go back to the way they were in the days of old. You may be feeling much the same way as you consider the myriad of ways in which Americans and their leaders have slipped away from truth. But it’s not too late! The Lord is patient and anxious for His people to call His name once again.

As you pray today, ask God to bring your nation back to His “precious things.”

While many don’t completely understand the Electoral College, all students are taught the election process somewhere around the fourth grade. While the popular vote is counted, the President of the United States is selected indirectly by the people. Still, it is ultimately God who allows an individual to be in any office, whether it be the White House or Congress.

Because the Lord loved Israel forever, he has made you king, that you may execute justice and righteousness.

I Kings 10:9

Whether you voted for or against President Obama, the Creator of all things permitted him to be there, just as He allowed former President Bush and former President Clinton before him. God placed David on the throne and claimed him “a man after my heart.” (Acts 13:22) When Moses asked for the release of his people, “the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh.” (Exodus 9:12) And in today’s verse, the Queen of Sheba recognized that Solomon was chosen by God.

God will use anyone to achieve His purposes. Give Him glory for that, and praise Him, too, for Christians who hold political offices and have a godly influence on the nation. Finally, ask Him to perform His will through those who were elected into office last week.
